They seem to be a thing of the past with most Dreamweaver users... how about
with FP users. I find them quite quirky at best.

Frames have been poo-poo'ed for YEARS with DW users and everybody else. For all
sorts of reasons, reasons that have changed in relevance and priority over the
years as browsers have changed.

Tim

It's about time that DW users got something right!

IMHO
- Frames are a valid html tool for certain circumstances
- which when used correctly cause no harm to the viewer
- need to be used recognizing the limitations of frames under certain conditions
- should always have valid no frames pages

That being said, they are becoming less favorable because of new web viewing technologies
- try running them in a PDA or WAP format (-;

They are pretty much out of vogue in general, although there are still
plenty of sites out there that use them. They can pose particular problems
with certain kinds of web applications, such as ASP and ASP.Net, and some
other server-side technologies, for a variety of reasons.

personally, I've discontinued using frames for most stuff. I still think
they're a good idea for things like administration panels and the like.
there is JavaScript that will pull the frameset if a content page is loaded
without them.
it's really too bad that frames haven't really advanced because they are a
great way to load a page that's heavy with graphics or complicated menus and
then just load content within them.

On this Topic.. I have just done the arcane and made a frame page which I
could use some help on.
I have my 3 split page with the large section on the bottom rt called index3
where I have a photo montage. It works ok except that the thumbs here link
to a blank page (with image) that is white background and i cant figure for
the life of me how to find the code location to change the background color
for one.

Second problem. once that page opens with its art offering - there's no way
to get back to the montage page to chose another image... anyone following
so far? I have made a link on the contents strip (left vertical area -
index1) stating back to montage......but it keeps opening new windows of the
whole lot on subsequent image choices. After viewing 3-4 choices, I have
that many new browser windows open. Either need a way to close and go back
or am just not doing it right....

could use a push in the right direction. Oh and running FP2003

#1 to set the color of the background for a image link, you have to create a
page for each individual large image, then change the link from the
thumbnail to point to that page.

#2 See above, by creating individual pages, you can then place a link back
to main page.

Thomas Thx...
Well I did use the picture gallery as can be seen here
www.mathefrax.com

but I was hoping to somehow alter the script to be able to add a link back
to the image.. I put a link "back to artist choices" on the left frame... Is
this answer still hold... as the web bot that does the gallery already
creates a page... or is that not a page?? as you describe?

If the link goes directly to a image file, such as image.jpg or image.gif,
then you are not loading a page, only the image in the browser default
window, so it is not possible to add any content along with the image being
displayed.
