Using Formulas on an imported worksheet

I use Windows 2000 , Quickbooks 2002, and Excel 2000

When I import a report from Quickbooks into Excel, then
try to use any formula, (ie: sum), inside that worksheet
The formulas do not operate.

What must I do to be able to utilize the data I imported,
and apply a function(formula) to it?

Most likely the numbers are text.

Copy an empty cell. Select your range of "numbers" then Paste
Special>Add>OK>Esc

What are the results of formulas now?
