Help! Textl appears faded or not at all until I hightlight the page. On some
pages it's worse than others. Adjusting and changing fonts is a mystery to
me.. never had this problem with XP Why is Vista so difficult?

Dean: It happens in all programs. The headers are normal and can be read,
however the text following in enclosed boxes cannot be seen until i scroll
over the page to highlight and then i can read the text. It even happens
when i'm using this program to read your response... I see your name and the
rest of the page is blank until i scroll it to bring up the text. Hope you
have some possible solutions.. thank you.

In other words, you are using Internet Explorer, and it's text is hard to
read in certain frames, or "boxes"? If you open a .txt file in Notepad, is
that hard to read? If you open a .doc file in Word, is that hard to read?
Give two or three examples of "all programs"...

As to Internet Explorer, try this. Go to (on the Command Bar) Tools >
Internet Options. Click on the Fonts button, on the General tab. For
"Webpage font", chose "Verdana". For "Plain text font", choose "Lucida
Console". Click OK. Now click on the Accessibility button. Make sure
there are no checkmarks next to any of the choices. If there are, uncheck
them. Click OK. Close Internet Properties. On the Command Bar, Click on
Page > Text Size, and make a selection that you like. For example, if you
are reading this Newsgroup in Internet Explorer, change the size to Large.
If you don't like that choice, you can change it back. Let me know how this
works for you...

It seems word and notepad txt files are ok. It's everything i search with
Internet Explorer that is a problem. I did all the steps you mentioned and I
still get the same thing. I did note that 2 windows opened by IE were ok.
myOnline trading accounts
work fine.. however another page opened Belarc Advisora which gives history
of the computer components, opens up with legible headers, but all the frames
for showing details of info are subdued on a white background which only is
legible when i scan across the entire page to bring up the printed word..
Never had this problem with XPand IE.... any other suggestions?

Hi oceans49. With the settings in Internet Options set as I instructed in
my previous post, now go to Internet Options and open the Security tab. If
the "Reset all zones to default level" button is not grayed out, click on
that button, and then Apply. Now go to the Advanced tab. Under the
"Multimedia" section, if "Always use clear type for HTML" has a check,
uncheck it. If it doesn't have a check, try checking it. Click Apply.
Later, if that doesn't help, put the that option back as it was. (When you
rely to this post, tell me what kind of monitor you have; for example, is it
an LCD type?) Now go to the General tab, and click on Delete, under the
section "Browsing History". Delete the Temporary Internet Files. Close
Internet Options. Close Internet Explorer. Restart IE. Is the text
readable without having to select it?

Hi Dean: Just to let you know, I decided this problem needed some hands-on
technician from Gateway. After 45 mins. of working thru all areas similar to
those you suggested... it was confirmed that I had a bad monitor. To prove
it I hooked
up my older monitor and everything came up just fine... So they are
replacing my
"new" monitor with another one which we hope will be "perfect".. Thanks for
your assistance.

I'm very glad to hear you were able to figure this out. A faulty monitor is
something I wouldn't have guessed, especially as your equipment is new. A
monitor not showing text under certain conditions is very odd. Good luck
with your new one, though, and thanks for reporting back.
