Using File/Open from within powerpoint

All - trying to open a presentation (s) using the file/open facility in powerpoint but after opening a few folders powerpoint just hangs...if I access the same folder via windows explorer its ok - Office XP SP2 - your thoughts appreciated :)

This has happened to me before when the first file alphabetically is quite
large or has the "Show Preview" option checked in the "File", "Properties".
Is this the case? If so, you might want to rename that file to not be the
first one that PowerPoint tries to show the preview of, or uncheck the box
in the Properties of that file.

Just a shot in the dark!
