Using FDisk before installing XPPro SP2

I am installing XPPro SP2 on an IBM Thinkpad A31 laptop. I want to set
up my C drive properly. When I enter FDisk, then Display Partition
Information, I see 1 partition, Status A, Type NTFS, no Volume Label,
19077 Megabytes (the full size), Nothing in System, Usage 100%. I have
formatted this drive. Are these the correct settings to begin
installing XPPro SP2? I was also noticing in Help that I should have
formatted with the following "format C: /s" so that the system files
will be put in this partition, shall I re-format with this command?
Also is it better to make this partition FAT 32, if so how do I
accomplish this. You can tell I am not a techie so please make your
reply very easy to follow. Thanks, Ken.

You dont need to do anything other than boot from the winxp cd, delete any
partitions then installhttp://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

NTFS is better/more efficient/secure than fat32

Thanks, will give it a try.

Why are you using fdisk? It's not part of XP nor is it needed, everything
you need is on your installation media. As stated you can delete, create,
and format partitions as part of the XP installation routine.

David thanks, I never knew that. The install, in fact, took care of
everything, formating the "C" drive, creating the single partition
before installing XPPro which went very smoothly. For the previous 8
hours, I have been updating from Microsoft. I had I yellow question
mark, the vga compatible video controller, but Device Manager was able
to locate, install the correct driver for the ATI Mobility Radeon
7500, no more yellow question marks. Although the Max resolution on my
IBM A31 is 768x1024, if I connect to my desktop CRT IBM monitor, I can
get much higher than that, just might try it. XPPro, at first glance
seems very interesting, going to give it a serious try. Thanks, Ken.

You're a bit late giving XP a try, in a weeks time you'll be two OS behind.
:-)

Neil, I know but I eventually want to switch completely to a Mac(I am
currently using a G3/400 running Panther, looking for a used G4 or G5
in my area with higher system specs, so expensive new) with my XP
laptop as a backup in case some things won't work on the Mac. I am
about to Norton Ghost my new XPPro install. Thanks, Ken.
