Using Fax in Word

When I tried to fax a Word 2000 document, I go through the Fax Wizard
but nothing happens after I click Send. There should be some kind of
Send box, shouldn't there? I ask because all of a sudden my dialup
modem turned up nonfunctional today, but after a reinstallation the
system showed it as ok but nothing happened from Word, and WinFax Pro
didn't recognize it. thanks,

Winfax Pro can be a bit fussy with modems, you will probably have to tell it
to use the new installation by re-running its configuration. This is a
Winfax issue and not a Word issue.

I'm puzzled by your response, since I asked about how the fax module of
MS Word 2000 (or is it Office 2000 Pro?) works. If I "print" a Word doc
with Fax, it takes me through a series of steps with the Fax Wizard, the
last of which is Send. However, no send dialogue box came up or
anything else that indicated a send was taking place. Are you saying
that's because of WinFax Pro, which was not open at the time? How?

There is no fax module or any fax functionality in Word, it merely accesses
whatever fax software is installed - in your case this is apparently Winfax.
Any failure to send faxes is the fault of the fax software, not Word. From
what you have said there is a miscommunication between Winfax and the Modem.
If you sort this out, your fax functionality from Word should be restored.

On further experimentation, it's possible that uninstalling WinFax Pro
at the same time as uninstalling/reinstalling the modem might have
worked. I say that because I found a solution by installing the modem a
second time using WFP to get to the New Hardware Wizard. Via that
method the original modem install became functional, the WFP-added one
could be deleted and off the fax went.

My question remains, tho, when the MS Word Fax module and modem are
operating properly, shouldn't there be a communicating dialogue box
after the Send?

Ok, then it must be part of Windows XP. There is a "Fax" listing under
Printers (Cntl-P) in Word that is separate from WinFax's listings and
brings up a wizard. Before I run off to another newsgroup, do you or
anyone know anything about how that works when the Send is clicked?

In that case you have Windows fax installed as well as Winfax. Both will
work as a 'printer driver' but they must be configured to work with your
modem.
