Using External/Non External Data

I have a workbook that has data imported through an iqy file in column
A through F. Columns G through Z have data that is not an iqy file
just regular data entry by the user.

The problem is that when you use "refresh" data to import newly adde
rows, the data does not stay consistent with the row. Columns
through F will update, but the data in columns G through G will no
stay with the follow the data in the column.

Is there a way to anchor a row of data? Example:

Column A will have a name, created by the iqy file. Column G will hav
a date, not updated by the iqy file, but manually inputted by the user
So A1 will have "Bill Smith" and G1 will have "5/20/2004". When
refresh the data, A1 might now be "Steve Smith" and G1 will still hav
"5/20/2004" when there should be no date at all. I need to ancho
"5/20/2004" with "Bill Smith". Is that possible?

I hope this makes sense, and thank you in advance for any help.

Hi, here is my little contribution...

Why would you like to have these different type of data on the same
sheet?

I would put it on two different sheets and link them in some way on a
third. Is it possibble for you to get some field from the import that
you can use as an index field? Say a postno from 1 to 1000 (a date is
no use as you'll have plenty of post from the same date) then you can
use this field to link these databases (and anchor them as you say) by
having them on both of the sheets, this field enables you to see wich
posts have been manually updated or not .

I am not sure if I have fully understood your problem, but this is the
way I would use :-) Does it make sense to you? I hope it will help you!

Best regards,

Mats
