Using explorer as default browser

I have access through "wal-mart connect" which utilizes
compu-serve. I am not able to use the "windows update"
when I hit the "start" button. How can I set my system up
to use Internet Explorer as my default browser?

In Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 select:

Tools | Internet Options | Programs

At the bottom of the dialog is a checkbox for: "Internet Explorer should
check to see if it's the default browser"

Check the checkbox. Restart IE and see what happens.
