Just got a new machine with DVD writer on it.
I expected to be able to copy files by drag and drop as on CD write.
No can do!!!

The properties of the disc on explorer say it's full !! when clearly it's
empty!

Can I persuade anyone to do a short but pithy response on "Using your DVD
Writer as a windows data disc"

You need to install packet-writing software to do this. XP does not have
the ability to either do packet-writing or to burn DVD's. Your new
machine probably came with third-party burning software, something like
Sonic or Roxio or Nero. As for packet-writing, I believe Sonic's is
Drag-to-Disc, Roxio's is DirectCD, and Nero's is InCD. I may be wrong
about the names; look and see what is installed on your computer.

Windows does not come with any such capability--for either CDs or DVDs. You
need third-party software which includes packet-writing capability. Nero is
a popular and good choice.
