I'm having the identical problem X 2. I have both a CD-rom RW (came with my Dell Dimension) and an external DVD RW
I'm able to read cd's on both. However, when I try to write to either, I get the same error message "d: drive is inaccessible"
When I attempt to use Roxio to simply read the contents of the disc or to format the disk, the response is either "the recorder is busy try another time" OR "there is no recorder
I have loaded software that came with the DVD rw. I have also reinstalled the software that came with the Dimension.
I've spent 6 hours on phone with dell troubleshooting (of course that includes wait time listening to that insane, repetitive music) and their latest hypothesis is that it is an XP issue
Solutions that we've tried to no avail
1. unplugging the dvd rw drive
2. MSCONFIG and cleared out all of the startup item
3. Disabled the DVD R
4. Gone to ASPI and downloaded an XP updated driver..
5. Stood on my head about a dozen times, each time being told to power down the system, turn it back on and then see if anything has changed. It hasn'
