using defender on school network

with the restrictions on the standard users on our network defender wont
update until an admin user logs in. What are the minimum permissions required
for a login to allow defender to update? Or is there another way of forcing
it to update using a system account or service such as wsus for any logged on
user?

You can distribute Windows Defender definitions via WSUS. I don't know
enough about that to tell whether it would solve your limited user issues.
