I have gone through a variety of question and answer threads that are trying
to show people how to get their contacts into their address list for Outlook
2007. As yet i have been unable to go through any of the variety of
instructions offered to solve this problem. I transferred my outlook
information from my old computer to my new computer via easy transfer. Now i
cannot use my contacts to insert into an new email "to" line. Every time i
try to follow the instructions given in answer and supplied in a "how-to"
links the required commands are always greyed out in the assorted outlook
properties boxes, etc. Can someone please run step by step through the
troubleshooting steps to get my contacts into my address book for outlook
2007 so i can make sure that i am doing things right? Thanks so much in
advance for your help!!!!

And therein lies your problem.
Create a new Mail Profile (Control Panel-Mail-Show Profiles-Add) and connect
to your transferred pst file. That /should/ solve the problem.

thanks Gordon. i have added a new profile but what are the steps to "connect"
to the transferred pst file? does it matter if i added profile from two POP
forward accounts (gmail and yahoo)? i dont really know how those connect to
my data file. sorry for the lack of familiarity with the nuts and bolts of
outlook.

Presumably when you used the Easy Transfer wizard, it transferred your pst
file.
In Control Panel-Mail-Data Files, navigate to the default location of the
pst file (C:\Users\{Your account Name}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook,
select the pst file and OK out.

thanks so much. i think that i have gotten it taken care of. one last
question--as long as i attach the personal folders data file from the old
profile and the archive data file from the old profile everything should be
the same as before right? I did notice that my old signature line wasnt there
anymore, should there be anymore sneaky little mixups that i should be on the
lookout for? thanks for your continued help....

Usually, but don't quote me! ;-)

I /think/ that's because signatures are in the Registry or some location
other than the pst file. You may find you have to re-create it...

The signature filesa are kept in %AppData%\Microsoft\Signatures so if you
didn't transfer that folder when you moved your data, you can either transer
them now or recreate them.
