When following for example the Configure Network Guide, one is told to insert
the XP-CD at a certain moment. But on a machine with preinstalled XP, no
such CD exists. This must be a problem that most people will meet some time,
since, at least in Sweden, almost every laptop has a preinstalled operating
system. The different guides ougth to be adapted to that. In the meantime,
what to do when told to insert the non-existing XP-CD?

Hi Richard, Sorry I'm unsure with what kind of configuration you want to
achieve, do you want to Create a new network and you want to install a new
service or Protocol or do you want to set up a network?, what hardware
involved in this setup?.
You can borrow XP CD and try the setup. What step the System did ask you for
the CD?.

Hi!
I'm trying to make a new computer work in an old well functioning wireless
network with two older computers and a common adsl access point.
One thing I did was trying to do was to make a folder on the new computer
shared. At a certain step in this procedure I was told to insert the XP-CD.
Since I had no, I couldn't complete the procedure.
Another thing I tried to do was using the Network Guide for recreating the
network.
At a certain step in this procedure I was told to insert the XP-CD. Since I
had no, I couldn't complete the procedure. There must be ways around this,
isn't the information needed already stored somewhere on the disc?
From where can I borrow an XP CD?

Hi Richard,
I'm still unclear on what you want to do, set up the File and printer
sharing or install a new service or protocol/component on the new machine?.
Did you run the Network Set up Wizard on this machine?.
Here are some Info, hope it will help:

Hello nass,
I already have an active thread discussing my new network problem (not
solved). Why I introduced a new was, if possible, to get an answer to the not
uncommon problem what to when ordered by some Windows Guide or similar to
insert an non-existing XP-CD. It isn't so very easy to borrow one nowadays,
when almost every computer on the consumer market is sold with a preinstalled
operating system.
With best regards
