using clipboard to create new address list

i'm trying to create a new address list using address in my contact list and
the clipboard. i can get the addresses into the clipboard but the functions
"paste all" or paste individually are greyed out. how do i get the addresses
into the new contact list?
 
Version of outlook? Where is the cursor when you trying to paste? can you
paste all into an outlook message body?

Define what you mean by "contact list". Do you mean a contacts folder or a
distribution list?
