Using CD-RW like a Floppy?

I want to use my CD-RW drive like a floppy drive - specifically I want
to be able to use dos commands to copy files to the disc. For example:

copy c:geronimo.wrd m:*.*

But I cannot seem to do this. Windows XP explorer wants to cache all
files to be sent to the CD-RW disc on it's hard drive and then copy them
all at once with an annoying wizard to follow. And Dos doesn't seem
able to copy to the disc.

I seem to remember that back when I got my HP computer, which came with
Windows ME, it came with Adaptec DirectCD and this allowed me to format
the discs so that they could be used exactly like a floppy.
Unfortunately, by upgrading to XP, Adaptec DirectCD no longer works, and
Roxio, which now owns the software, won't support it, but they will sell
a newer version for money.

Is there anyway to make my CD-RW disc act like a floppy, allowing simple
dos commands to copy files to it, preferably without shelling out cash
for a new program?

Many thanks for any help in this area.

What you are looking for is something called UDF Packet Reading / Writing
Software. There are several popular ones out there. A good one called In-CD
comes with Ahead Nero. It wouldn't surprise me if there was at least one
free version floating around on the internet somewhere although I didn't
bother to look too hard.

It is normal for Utility software to not work on a newer OS. Easy CD 5 or 6
is required for Windows XP. Other software that has the needed packet writer
is Nero and Record Now from Veritas, which I believe is now from Sonic.

To the best of my knowledge, Nero and Veritas also had to upgrade their
software to work with XP.
