Hi,

We have 4 desktops, (1 XP Pro, 3 XP Home)
in a workgroup on a peer-to-peer LAN that also has
other workgroups on it. We want to prevent users other
than the 4 in our workgroup from accessing our shared
files. Because 3 of our boxes are XP Home, it seems
that perhaps the best solution would be to keep our
shared files on our XP Pro box, so that we can use file
permissions to limit access, and use that box as a sort
of workgroup file server for our 3 XP Home boxes.

Could someone please point me to a source of
information with how-to's and tips on setting up such a
workgroup server?

Thanks,

M.B.

I'll give you some links, but basically just turn off Simple Sharing on
the Pro box (Folder Options>View) and create user accounts and
passwords only for the people who will access that computer.
