Well, I paid around $1,300 when I bought my Epson Expression 636
Professional SCSI-scanner. which it is still working fine. I would
like to know if it is possible to make it work with a USB-->SCSI
converter. Adaptec, for example, makes such an interface.
I am using Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 8400 machine.
Thank you very much.

I do not know if a USB to SCSI converter will work.(Probably Not, The Epson
software does not know about USB for this model).

However you can get PCI Adaptec SCSI cards on EBay that will work in Windows
XP.
For Windows XP you also have to install ASPI from Adaptec, because Windows
XP does not have an ASPI layer.

You also have to update the software for the Epson Expression 636 to Windows
XP compatible software.

There is not a Windows XP driver for this scanner, but try the TWAIN Driver
v3.42A for Windows 2000, it may work in Windows XP.

Actually, I have an Epson Expression 636 Professional (w/transparency
adapter lid) that works quite well with a SCSI-to-USB OR
SCSi-to-Fireware adapter...

That is very interesting! Can you give me the model/maker of the
SCSI-to-USB adapter you are using. I want to try such a device with my
old ALPS printer(s), the ones for Mac are SCSI-only and while I am
experimenting running with a virtual machine, it would be great to
experiment with SCSI-to-USB as well.

Can you give an example of a product (SCSI-to-USB)?
I cannot find any such devices sold here in Tokyo, so if I can get a
recommended (known working) model, I will try to source overseas.
