Using an old monitor to test system

I've ordered my parts and should be able to start assembly in a week or so,
but the monitor I ordered will be 2 to 3 weeks out. I have an old (1991) 15"
CRT in the attic from an old system. It probably has some comical Hz rate
and is not P+P. I'm thinking that I could use that monitor to get the system
up and (hopefully) running - setting the bios features, up to the point of
loading the OS, which I will wait to do until I have the P+P monitor
available. The video card will be a Radion Pro. Since the output is analog
anyway I don't see a downside to this plan. Am I mistaken? Any chance that
old monitor will cause the new video card to explode into fiery hell?

Not a problem. If you load the OS it will just default to the generic VGA
driver. No harm done.

A few weeks ago, I pulled an old ('91) 14" Acer CRT out of the
basement & plugged it into my just-completed AMD system. (My video
card is a Matrox P650 with 2 DVI outputs; Matrox supplies a DVI =>
analog adapter.) I could've used my 19" Dell LCD instead, but I wanted
to keep that connected to my PII/400 for web access in case I needed
to D/L drivers & what have you. I wound up installing XP Pro with the
Acer hooked up. As you'd guess, XP loaded the generic Microsoft VGA
driver. After that, I returned the Acer to the laundry room, plugged
in the Dell & installed the latest Matrox drivers. Everything went
smoothly.

Good to know. Thanks to both.
