hey guy's. i've aquired a computer which has no hardrive but i have an old
one in the cupboard, it already has winxp installed on it which i'm not to
bothered about. i guess when i hook up this hardrive to the aquired computer
it wont work straight off?. so how do i wipe it and set it up for the aquired
computer? would appreciate any help here

If XP, boot from the CD.. If Win 2K, boot from the CD.. if Win 98/ME, boot
from the CD it will allow, or use a Win 98 boot diskette.. If Knoppix, boot
and run from the CD..

first try pressing f8 before windows tries to load and go into safe mode. It
may load and then fix any errors. If this isn't any good then either use a
fast boot option (if your BIOS supports it) or go into the bios setting and
set the boot priority to cdrom 1st then Harddrive. insert your XP disc and
a full installation should occur.

Set up the computer to boot from the Windows XP installation
cdrom. Let it start setup. Remove all partitions and drives.
Re-partition and format and let setup run.

Hey Guy's, thanks for the info.
i connected up the harddrive used my xp disc on boot up and deleted the
partition,
reinstalled xp on a fresh partition and hey presto! my only problem now is
that i cant get it activated, seems i have to phone to do that. A friend
tells me that microsoft wont do it and i need to buy a new copy of xp as i
cant use the same licence on both machines? does anybody know if this is the
case?

Correct, one machine per licence only
