Hi,

I am trying to help a friend who is a High School Teacher. He uses Power
Point in his classroom and is trying to find out if there is an advantage to
using a TV instead of a projector and also if HD TV would be a better way to
go than a conventional TV.

As a general rule, your friend would be better off using a computer
projector than a TV, because the image quality will be better with a
projector than with a "regular" TV. I haven't tried an HDTV yet, so I don't
know how PowerPoints (or any computer images) look on those.

On the other hand (there's alway another hand, isn't there?), it's easier to
roll a TV into a room than set up a projector and screen. I've taught in
some classrooms that have TV's mounted from the ceiling, just waiting for
input from a computer. So if your friend teaches in a TV-equipped room,
it'll be much easier to use a TV than a projector.

By the way, when writing about how "easy" it is to use a TV, I'm assuming
your friend's computer is equipped with an A/V Out port, and that your
friend has the right cable to connect that port to a TV. If your friend's
computer doesn't have a A/V Out port, then he or she will have to get a
computer-to-TV converter; they're not expensive (some are less than $100),
but unless the school owns one already, it'll be another piece of equipment
to buy, keep track of, and hook up.
