Whenever a hard drive acts up, I usually have to end up putting the
drive in another PC to get the data off the drive. I want to know if
anyone things this would simplified if I a portable hard drive
enclosure. I would put the hard drive in the enclosure, connect via
USB and never have to take another machine apart to fix the first
machine. Do I understand what an enclosure if for? Thanks.

That will work. It's the same as any internal drive except external, more
convenient and you don't need it connected all the time... sometimes XP will
not detect exteranl drives USB connections. If you change drives often you
might prefer an adapter instead. Newegg has one that takes 2.5" and 3.5" IDE
and SATA drives. No case to take apart or screws to fool with.

Thanks, but not sure what you meant abou the adapter. I just want to
use the enclosure for broken hard drives for testing.
