Hi everyone, Before I put my boot through my system I
thought I would try to get some other ideas first.

My problem:-

I have a WK2 Server running active directory in domain
mode. This system has the modem in it.
I have a XP system that connects to the domain as a client,
I am trying to get the XP system to use the Dialup modem
in the server to get onto the internet. I can not get it
to work. Both systems are connected to each other via a
crossover cable. IP address of server 192.168.0.1/24, XP
192.168.0.2/24

Any ideas grately recieved
Regards
Ian

By default the XP system will not be able to cause the modem to dial out.
You need to set up some kind of Internet sharing on the server. Win 2k
server comes with NAT and ICS, you can buy ISA. What are you using to share
the Internet connection with?

Thanks for the reply

My WK2 Server is a domain controller and the XP is a
client, I have tried the ICS but to no avail, I have
tried NAT with the onboard NIC and a wireless adapter.
Instead of getting on the internet through the server it
keeps trying to use its own dial up connection. I have
disable this connection and IE opens and then closes.

I'm losing my mind, I must be going something wrong,
please help.

Thanks for the info on your products, however, I don't
want to buy any more modems as I am getting broadband in
may. I just want to find a solution for my problem until
then, just to keep me going.

Cheers

If i am not wrong and understand your question clearly, you want the XP
system to Make the Server Dialup, and then the XP system uses the internet
from the server? well if that is what you want, you need to make a program
that uses remote +COM service through RSDIAL dos command. and you must
enable te internet connection sharing. is that what you want?

Thanks for the reply

All I would like to do is whenever someone on my network
using XP opens IE or Outlook the server automatically
connects to the internet via its modem to enable the
client to a. browes the web and b. collect email. When
finished the server will automatically disconnect the
dialup connection.
There must be a way of doing this

I guess you want Wingate Cleint/Server. It ha the ability that enabke the
user to make dial-up from the server and also the user can discconect the
connection. in addition it is an internet sharing tools. but you have to
install the wingate client on each station, and the wingate server on the
server. you also can setup wingate to disconnect the internet connection
from the server if there is no activity for more that x min. Wingate server
and all the clients should have ip address, which is your case.
Hope this helps you.
