While I wait for a router to arrive, I need to retain my LAN direct to a
second computer, and also have my high speed broadband coming in through an
ethernet card. I have 2 NICs installed but haven't succeeded in getting
them to work at the same time.
First question is if this is possible and what do I have to know to make it
work. I'm using Win2000. The motherboard is a bit old, an Asus P2B
upgraded to the very latest german bios and a Pentium 3 1000mHz cpu. The
bios is not more than one or two years old.
Second question, if I can't use both NICs can I simply unplug the internet
connection(from the cable modem) and plug in the cable from the other
computer on the LAN (it's a direct connection cable). And can I do this
unpluging with the computers on or should they both be off before I unplug.
Also, do I need to reboot the cable modem when I re-plug its cable after
I've finished with the use of the LAN. The devil is in the details and
that's what I need to know.
Thanks in advance,
John
