Sounds like it was configured to use a database it can no longer reac.

Try creating a new database.

I am getting the same message (could not connect to shared database) but am
also fail when I attempt to create a new database. I am not on a network.
I can ping my own computer so I know that I am connecting to the "server".

Perhaps related (or another problem for another thread)...at the same time
that this error showed up I also had the "host search protocol" (or something
like that, I am working from memory) crash.

Further thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks.

This is BCM v3 running on Vista?

Here is additional info:
MS Office Small Business 2007
XP Professional SP2

I don't seem to be losing any other functionality (i.e. everything works
fine after I decline to "work offline"). I cannot, however, create a new
database. For some reason the host computer cannot be contacted to create
the new database (I suspect the same reason I can't load the original
database).
As I stated earlier, I can ping the computer without error.
I have tried disbabling the Windows Firewall and my virus software but no
luck there either.

Fixed: Business Contact Manager for Outlook could not connect to the shared database

The solution to this problem is to start the SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) Service, it may not start if you try to start it from “Services”, but should start if you follow these instructions:

1. Open the Computer Management Console (right click on My Computer and click on Mange or find it in the Control Panel in Administrative Tools)

2. Go to SQL Server 2005 Services (locate it in the left-hand panel under Services and Applications, SQL Server Configuration Manager)

3. Right Click on SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) and click on Properties

4. You may need to enter the username and password of an administrator here and click on Apply (I had to do this before it worked)

5. Click on start

6. Start the SQL Server Browser in the same way

Now restart or start Outlook and the problem should be solved.

You may also want to check the name of the computer the database is located on:

1. In Outlook, click File, Data File Management

2. In the Data Files Tab check the computer name next to BCM (you may want to amend/fix this if you have changed your computer name)
