I have created three users on W2k installation. I have
installed Kazaa through the admin account and it works on
that desktop. I would like to get it working on another
user desktop but it says you need admin priviledges to
run.............
Please inform me how i can run kazaa or other programs
from different users desktops. Do they have to
be "powerusers" or such. If so how can i limit their
security, read/write priviledges.

thanking you in advance
Mark

Hello Mark,

It is common that users would experience difficulties as you describe in
your post. The reason is that there are still most likely some registry
entries specific to the user that have to be modified.
You can monitor file and registry access with the third-party FileMon and
RegMon tools.

These tools monitor and log all registry and file access...

For information about FileMon, refer to the following Web site:
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/filemon.shtml

For information about RegMon, refer to the following Web site:
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/regmon.shtml

Usage:
1) Start Filemon or Regmon
2) Go about reproducing the error
3) Click File then Save as
4) Open the log file
5) From the log file you should be able to identify the registry keys or
files attempted to be accessed. You can just search the log file for
"Access Denied", which will give you quick clues where you may have to make
changes to the permissions. You would have to give the users or a user
group explicit permissions on the registry key or file in question.

If you have the same problems with Filemon or Regmon, run it one time from
the admin account and then the user should be able to run the application
as well.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,
