when i set up a new limited user, xp does not allow the
limited user use of any program that may require a
download to operate. i do not want to grant admin status
to these users, but the programs are an important asset
the they should be able to use. the supplier of the
program does not limit access. xp does not let these
programs start. if i change the user to admin, the program
is usable. so how do i allow the limited user access?

What exactly do you mean by "download"? Do you REALLY mean "install"?

Greetings,

Limited users are by design, only allow to do things that will not have bad
repercussions on the system. This means that limited users cannot access the
system files, and cannot install programs which may attempt to make system
wide changes. It sounds like the problem is that this application is
attempting to do one of those things.

If the application requires that it be run from an administrator user
account, there is not much you can do to get around it. The only solution I
can think of is to use the "Run As..." functionality (Right-click the
program and select "Run as..." and enter the administrators name an
password).

If you want Power Users access for these users, then you can set them
up via 'control userpasswords2' instead.
