Hi All,

I have XP PRO (NTFS) with a Motorola cable modem
connected via USB. The problem is this: None of my user
accounts can connect to the internet unless I first login
as the administrator and obtain a connection (sometimes I
have to renew my IP address). This is very inconvenient
as I have to go through this every day to let my
roommates get online. Is there a script I can create to
renew the IP address for every user every time they
login? How would I accomplish this? OR is there
something I can change in the MMC or registry to
correct/bypass this issue. I am trying to maintain as
limited function as possible for all the users on this
PC. I have thoroughly searched these newsgroups to no
avail on finding a fix for this issue.

Thank You,
Lou

You can "Tweak" the registry, run a search for "Internet Options" on this
site:
http://www.winguides.com/registry/

It should supply a solution. For some people it is not at all uncommon to
"tweak" the registry, however I personally don't care for this practice. If
you do, back up your registry.

Interesting situation, you may want to attempt running this in console in
the "Limited" acount w/o connection:

ipconfig /renew

and see what happens.
Report back any errors to this post for further anylization.

I tried to run the 'ipconfig /renew' via command prompt
in my user accounts but only get an 'access denied'
error. Is there another way to run it automatically with
admin rights? I'm vaugely familiar with the console.
Please be detailed if you have any other suggestions.

Thanks for your response.
Lou
