-- I used the recovery disk to reset my computer. After setting all my files
and hardware, I wrote a few letters, to be continued later. I saved them to
my Document File.

Later I noticed that the Computer User's were listed as Administrator and
Guest. I decided to change the adinisrator name to my own. In doing so it got
rid of the original administrator user. I lost the complete desktop setup and
my letters in Document File. Is there anyway I can recover these letters. As
you can guess, first letters are always best. (For me at least.) Thank you.

create a new admin user, log off and log on as the new admin user. you now
have access to all the other files / folders

What steps did you use to rename the original Administrator account?
Did you use Local Security Policy under Administrative tools?

Can you get to the letters by using Windows Explorer to get to:

c:\documents and settings\administrator\my documents ?

You can not get rid of the Administrator account as it is a security feature
within XP so that there's always access possible. You have to boot into safe
mode to log on as 'Administrator' and from there i'm sure you can either copy
those letters to 'your' profile or even delete 'YOUR' account in order to
revert to the previous state .
HOWEVER!
It is good practice to use your computer on a day to day basis from an
account such as you have created and leave the actual Administrator account
alone, it is afterall a safety feature.----- Search the microsoft knowledge
base for more information on user accounts-----
