Is there a way to give certain users access to other
peoples folders, without editing the permissions on the
folders, but instead editing Active Directory?

If you setup permissions right on your system, then you would use groups to
assign permissions to your files and folders. This way, you would grant your
users access to the files by just putting them to the right group.

We do use groups. We have various ones including 'Staff
Group' and 'User Group'.

Unfortunately, the users folders are all in one folder,
not split into Student and Staff folders.
As we have 1800 students and a a couple of hundred staff,
all with their own folders, I don't want to go add the
Staff Group to 1800 student folders by hand.

Next year I will start putting new students into a User
folder to solve this, but that means it will take 4 years
for the older students to filter through and leave school.

I wondered if there was any automated way to acheive it.
