In W2K user name up to 127 characters. But, if you are on network with 95,
and/or 98, they are up to 14, but you probably already knew that. And I do
not know if it is inclusive or exclusive, but I would put even odds on it
being inclusive. Try it.
I am sure you know that the password should be complex.
Complex= at least 8 characters using both cases and the 2nd thru 8th at
least one being a non alphanumeric. (That means any of the other marks on a
keyboard, generally excluding the "pipe", or "backslash". And it may include
those, but M$ doesn't list them.
Example: m!twtfss (that was the first letter of the week, starting on Monday
and using the number one mark (exclamation)(I know, I should have started on
Sunday)(And I could have made every other one a capital)
And, it's suggested that for added protection to establish a system of
passwords, i.e. 12 password sets being rotated once a month. This can be done
easier than we think using say a standard calender for this year. Use what
ever you want on the calender for a standard, say what day the month starts
on followed by the numbers in the first day vertical row. Or any other
system you would arrvive at using the calender. The reason, you can not lose
the calender. Or you can use a nursery ryhmn, replacing some of the letters
with which number in alphabet they are, like the first letter of each.
Example: H(8)ey D(4)iddle D(4)iddle T(19)he C(3)at A(1)nd T(19)he F(6)iddle
Or just use something on your Driver's License, or your mother's given name
+ last four digits of her phone number + her maiden last name.
One word to the wise is, if you think of a whole lot of possibilities, it is
extremely easy to forget which one you used. The real trick is to use
association in a way that you can not forget.
Sorry, I apologize for going "on" like that, but it helps me generate ideas
for systems easy that is sooo far ahead of artificial intelligence, but
simple for humans simply using "associations" of life that they just can't
get. And if they get that, we can start using emotions, and that'll
throw'em. If they catch onto that, well that's pretty far down the road.
Good lord, I have to stop,
good computing,
