username and password

When sending a series of newsletters to hundreds of customers using mail
merge, I often have the problem of being asked for a username and password,
which I supply, but it still doesn't work. I have to delete the user account
and reinstall it. Then everything works fine again. Is there some reason why
this occurs?
 
Depends on the mail account you are using.

Do you have a virus scanner installed which integrates itself with Outlook?
Uninstall this integration part of your virus scanner and try again; you'd
still be sufficiently protected by your on-access scanner part of the virus
