userid & password specification within FTP address

I used to know the correct syntax for specifying the userid and password
within an FTP address. I'm pretty sure the last time I did this was
prior to using XP.

Can one still do this with XP (I suspect, yes)? And if so, could
someone help me with the correct syntax?

The format of the URL should be the same regardless of the OS you are using.
It is ftp://username:password@ftp_server_name/
