Hello,

I have a win2k server that is not a DC with the following
errors appearing in the app log.

The first one:

Windows cannot establish a connection to domainname.com
with (0).

Followed by:

Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy
objects . A message that describes the reason for this
was previously logged by this policy engine.

Any ideas. I can't find anything on Tech Net or MS
support.

Thanks in advance,

Kent

Hi Kent
This is a very generic error and can be caused by many things.
1. If this only happens on boot it may be an issue with network card. Try
changing the network card to 100mb full duplex instead of auto detect.

2. If it happens at other times it may be a name resolution problem. Make
sure that the client is pointed only to an internal DNS server for DNS .
Also make sure that your doamin controller is registering in DNS. It
should also only point to an internal DNS server. You can test the doamin
controller by installing the support tools from the 2000 CD and running
netdiag from a command line. Check to make sure that the DNS test passes.

You can enable userenv logging on the client to also assist with this
issue. It will show the boot and hopefully show the errors like it cannot
find a domain controller?

To enable userenv logging follow this article:
