Userenv.dll (KB 329457)

Hi there,

Does anyone know where I can download from a new version of userenv.dll
(5.1.2600.1143 build or higher)?
Currently I am stuck at WinLogon on my workstation (writing this post from
another computer). When I try to logon in to any user account (roaming or
local) the computer hangs. The symptoms seem to be absolutely the same as
described by KB 329457 (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329457). My
userenv.dll, of course, is the one from XP SP1 - 667,136 bytes,
5.1.2600.1106 build.

Frankly, I don't want to use PSS to obtain the fix as it says in the KB. I'd
rather get a workaround how to pass or avoid the critical section leak or
the patch for the library from MS (since it says in the KB's Note "In
special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be
canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific
update will resolve your problem. The typical support costs will apply to
additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific
update in question.").

Thanks,
KM

Likely because you refuse to use the proper channels to obtain the fix.
Hotfixes are free as long as you ask for no other assistance. If you do not
wish to take advantage of this means of fixing your machine, then I wish you
well, but cannot help you. No one can help someone that refuses to help
themselves.

Incidentally, should you find the fix available at a crack site or similar,
be aware that those files are often altered to suit someone else's purpose.
Be careful with what you wish for, as you just may get it.
