Hello.

We have Windows 98 installed on our school computers. Some
of their hard drives got bad, and we decided to put
Windows 2000 on the new ones. We managed to connect the
computers to the network, and all seems to be working
fine. However, we want all the students to have the same
settings (start menu, microsoft shortcut bar, desktop,
mouse properties, etc). In Windows 98, we just had to
right-click on Users, and say use same settings for all
users. In 2000 however, we cannot figure out how to do it.
Is there a way, other than manually going into Documents
and Settings and modifying the All Users folder? Thanks.

Yes there is a way. We use it here. Logon as any user and
create the settings you wish to apply manualy. Then you
will have to logoff and logon as the administrator. Copy
the NTUSER.DAT from the users account you used to setup
you settings to the C:\document and settings\default user
folder, overwriting the default user's NTUSER.DAT file.
Then delete any user profiles on that system. This will
make the default user inherit the configuration settings
you have applied. Deleting the user account will make the
system re-create the users account when they logon, using
the newly configured default user NTUSER.DAT file. This
will make sure that all users have the same config.
