I have a Dell desktop computer with windows xp on it. I am the administrator on the computer. I set up the computer to allow my 2 children to be users and monitor their internet activity. This has worked in the past but isn't working now. I'm getting no support from Dell, MSN, or roadrunner. All of them want to charge me lots of $ to fix my problem and I think your problem will do it, but I can't get it to work. I had MSN and each of us were able to access the internet thru MSN and go online once we logged into the computer and I received an email showing me where my kids went. I'm not quite sure when it stopped working but I did have dailup in the past when it worked. I got DSL and it allowed my kids (the users) to access the internet only a few times. I tried with my DSL company to fix the problem and it didn't work. I thought getting roadrunner would solve my problems and it doesn't. I can access the internet thru internet explorer and also thru MSN but my users can't. Roadrunner won't fix it because I (the administrator) can access the internet so it's not their problem. They say its a Dell problem and dell says they will try but its not covered on my service contract. So they want me to pay to get my problem fixed. I have been playing with permissions and user levels trying to make the users the same as I am because mine works. I thought the Dougknox security console would work. It doesn't help my problem.
Also, I recently added a user and all of the programs on the computer don't exist (like Quicken) and I even changed the user to an administrator and still no internet access or Quicken. Please help.
 
What error message do you get when a Limited User account tries to access
the internet ? Does a icon showing 2 monitors appear on the bottom right,
after a Limited User account logs on ? If not, does the Internet Connection
(in Control Panels, Network Connections) indicate it is connected or not,
after a Limited User account logs on ? It would help to know if you
actually establish a connection to DSL or Roadrunner.

after a Limited User account logs on ? If not, does the Internet Connection

after a Limited User account logs on ? If not, select the Internet
Connection (in Control Panel, Network Connections), and select Make a
Connection in the common task list on the left. Did it make a connection,
when you logged on as a Limited Account ? It would help to know if you
actually establish a connection to DSL or Roadrunner, whenever you log on as
a Limited User account.

The main "Page can not be displayed" message shows. I'm only using
roadrunner DSL. I do not recall seeing 2 monitors on the bottom right. I
will check when I get home tonight. I'm leaving work in 10 minutes. Thanks

Sorry it was longer than 15 minutes. While walking the dog, a home
inspector told me the condo next door to me has termites. Bad news.

The only way I can reproduce your problem is when I terminate the connection
to the ISP, and launch IE. When I terminate the connection, my firewall
(ZoneAlarm) continues to show that my PC is still sending data. Where the
data is going I don't know. But for sure the data is not going to my ISP.

That's why I asked you to try other programs. Once a connection is
established, it is possible to communicate using Outlook Express to post
newsgroup messages, and run Windows Messenger to chat with friends, even if
IE crashes with error messages. If no connection is established, then
Outlook Express and Windows Messenger will also fail.

When you get home, log onto the Limited User account, and tell me if you can
successfully communicate using other programs (Outlook Express and Windows
Messenger).

I have the same problem. I can access the internet under my user profile,
but my other family members cannot. Is there a fix?
