When booting, I get two option lines from which to
select, but both are Windows XP. Why 2 lines? I do not
get the user profile signon box to select from (only 2
accounts exist, one of which is guest)

Also, when Start, Log-off User selected, the user name
and a count on number of unread email msgs is displayed,
along with an indication of the ISP (AOL,in this case).
How does it get this info and how can I turn it off?

1. Right-click 'My Computer' | Properties |

-OR-

[Start] Control Panel | System |

2. /Advanced\
"Startup and Recovery" section [Settings]

3. "Startup and Recovery" dialog box - "Startup" section
- [Edit]

This opens "boot.ini" in "Notepad".

Copy the text and paste into your reply, for analysis.

Are you saying that after you choose one of the "two option lines from which to select" you are not presented with the "Welcome
Screen"?

One way might be via TweakUI (for XP) - navigate to...
- Logon
- Unread Mail

If TweakUI is not installed on your system, then download it from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Note: V2.10.0.0 needs Windows XP SP 1

If you do not have SP1, the earlier version of TweakUI can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Maybe ask AOL.
