My system is running extremely slow. I've a 1.8gh and 512mb ram Compaq
running xp which i purchased in 2001. When I hit the start button it
sometime takes two to 5 seconds for the start menu to show and the same
thing happens for everything as I try to navigate through anything. Many
times when my cursor is over one of the programs, it doesn't even highlight
or even seem to recognize the cursor is above it.

I have a hunch it might be something to do with my user profile.
I just opened the following:
Performance and Maintenance
System Properties
Advanced Tab
User Profiles I hit the Settings Button
It shows the User Account Size being 1.25GB. Is it common to have a user
account that huge? the others on the computer are between 714KB and 3.37MB.

Any ideas?.....please help if you have anything.

Thank you,

Carl

Hi Carl,

That profile is huge. Mine is around 350 MB. Do you have many files in
My Documents folder?

You can try copying the settings to another account and see if that
solves the problem. You need to log on in a different account from the
originating and receiving one, with administrative privileges. Go to
the Advance tab you are in and click copy profile, select the huge one
and the receiving account.

Furthermore, you can try copying only the file ntuser.dat to another
profile, this file holds the informatin about your account. Try doing
that and booting from the new profile.

Good luck
