One of our salespeople owns a windwos xp home machine. Originally this
machine had been set up with a profile in teh name of 'Pat'. Our Salesperson
changed the profile name to 'Gary'. However, all of the background data all
remains under the pat profile.. i.e.. in documents and settigns, there is
no user "Gary" - it is all still "Pat". This isn;t really a big deal, but
what is boithering him is that when the machine boots, it alwyas comes up to
the default logon name of "Pat" - not "Gary". I did a quick look in teh
registry and found under HKLM->Software->Microsoft->WIndwos
NT->CurrentVersion->WInlogon a registry entry entitled "DefaultUSer" and it
was set to "Pat". I changed this to Gary and rebooted. Voila, it came up as
Gary. However, after the next reboot, it was back to "Pat". When I checked
this registry key again, indeed it was set back to "Pat". This user has AOIL
on his machine and a bunch of AOL stuff is happening on boot up.
What might be changing thios registry key? Or a better question is How does
one make changes such that his machine will alwyas boot up to "Gary" as
opposed to "Pat"??
PS, this user is divorced now and is getting sick of seeing his ex's name in
there all the time!!!
Thanks, Brad
