User Password Information

I have a domain conroler which is an unstable system. I
want to move the user database to a newly installed Win2k
server, which will be the Domain Controler in the Future.

I'm thinking of moving the user information from the
current dc to the new one by exporting into a CSV file and
importing the same file to the new server. The reason for
this is to keep away any currupted data of that dc, and
only to get the user database.

My problem is, whether I can keep the user password
information when I do this. I dont want to keep user
passwords unchanged. If this CSV file method would not
suite this, please suggest some otherway.

Don't know, what you mean under corrupted database, but I would add this
server as additional DC to the existing domain, transfer all roles to it and
de-dcpromo the old one. If you really need to create a separate forest, then
you could investigate into ADMT tool, which will allow you to transfer
objects between your forests.

Seeing how there have already been comments on the adding the new server to
your existing domain, I will comment on the csvde utility. There are no MS
utilities to export the current users passwords. This would be a security
hole if it could be done. But, you can use the addusers.exe in the resource
kit to export your users to a csv file, then specify a password for each
user when you import them back in.
