Help! I changed my password on the opening page of XP. The one that lists
every users names. Now I type in the new password and it asks me if I've
forgotten the password. So I type in the old password and it asks the same
thing. So I can't get into my computer with either password. Help! What
can I do? XP came on my laptop so I don't have a disk to reinstall with.
All my files are on this laptop. Please help me get around this problem.

Reboot, and go into Safe Mode.
To get into Safe mode, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup, and use UP arrow
key to get to Safe Mode from list of options, then hit ENTER.

Log into the Admin account(password should be blank by default), and make
your changes.

Or: download the ISO file from the link, and make a bootable disk, and
follow instructions from the link re passwords.

On some occasions, users will forget the status of their Caps Lock while
making or changing passwords...

I went into safe mode but there is nothing that says Admin account. I have a
Dell Laptop and the tabs are "Main" "Advanced" "Security" "Boot" and "Exit".
Under the Security tab there are 3 password entries. One is Supervisor,
User, and HDD. The User Password is disabled and grayed out. Does this
sound like what I should be using?

Karen, you have gone into Bios/setup, not a list of startup options, which
includes Safe Mode.

Normally, you woulf hit Delete to get where you went.
Tapp F8 at startup/power on.

You're not in Safe Mode. You've ended up in the computer's BIOS Setup
program. What key did you press at startup? It sounds like you hit the F2
key.

To enter Safe Mode you need to keep tapping the F8 key as the computer
boots. You should then see the Windows Advanced Options Menu. Use the arrow
keys to select Safe Mode from the menu.

Good luck

Good Bless You. You have saved me from a lot of anguish. If there is
anything I can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask. You are a God send.
