Hi All,

We are on Domain A (2000/3 native), and have a couple of users from
another office who need access to our shared printers when they come to
our site.

The other users' machines are on Domain B and use Windows 2000 OS.

I have tried to add the relevant printer using the UNC path on their
machines, but am receiving an error stating

"Cannot connect to printer. Access denied."

But, if I try the adding a printer using the UNC path using a Win XP
machine that is on a workgroup, it works fine.

Does anyone know a way to get round this and where the problem lies? Is
it because the original machines are joined to a different domain or an
issue with 2000 that XP can get round?

Thanks
Dilan

Their user accounts are in Domain B and the printer is in Domain A. By
default they do not have access. If we assume the there is a trust
relationship between Domain A and Domain B, where Domain A trusts Domain B,
then we can resolve the problem. On the print server go to the printer in
question. Right Click and adjust the permissions on the printer adding the
users from Domain B that need access to it. They should then be able to
print.

Now, if you don't have a trust you cannot do this. You would have to give
them an account on the Domain A and make the password match the Domain B
password or the password (and username) on the local Workstation they log in
to.
