does anyone know why we can change the user name on the
login screen, but we can't change the "system folder" that
are the user's files?

I created a new 'user' and called it test. now I can't
change the name of this file because XP says it is a
system file and it's name can't be changed?

Sounds bogus.

Hi,

Not bogus, that's the way it works (security reasons). If you want to change
the user folder name, create a new user with that name, then copy over
relevant files/links to the new user folder.

Because that's how it works. The user name and folder name only match when
the account is first created. XP will change the "friendly name" for that
user as often as you want but it will retain the original underlying
account name in many places (the account's folders being one such
reference).

If you want these two things to match, create a new account with the name
you want on the welcome screen and user folders. Log on with it once to
create the user folders. Then log on to an administrator account (that is
not the user account you're copying from or copying to) and copy the old
user account to the new one that you just created. Use System properties>
Advanced> User Profiles> Settings to perform this copying.
