user name vs folders

I set up a user name xyz. (Just an example.) Win2000 set up a
corresponding folder in Documents & Settings.

I changed the username to ABC. The folder names didn't change (and I
didn't expect them to). Before I go and rename the corresponding
folder, is there anything that I am going to screw up with this?

Thanks
Bill

To what end? What is it you're trying to do?

I set up a (complex) username on my (win2000) pc before I found out
that only the password needs to be complex. My son's winxp pc doesn't
like that username, so I cannot network the two machines.

I want to change my username to something like "dad" on my pc and then
I can have the same username on my son's pc. Then I would like to have
the sub-folder (under Documents & Settings) on my pc be "dad" instead
of the old complex name. Otherwise it gets confusing because the
folder root doesn't match the username on my pc. (I have several
usernames on my pc, some to segment work from personal stuff and some
for other members of the family who don't have their own pc, yet.)

In "Users" properties, it's only the username that counts, right? The
"fullname" is just a text string?

Thanks for your help.

While logged on as a user that has local administrative rights, create the
new user account (in Users and Passwords) Then logon as the new user at
least once. Then while logged on as a user that has local administrative
rights Control Panel|System|User Profiles, select the oldprofile, Copy To,
Browse to
%systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\newprofile
Change "Permitted to use:" to "newprofile" OK
