User name mapping problems

Has anyone had success configuring user name mapping on W2K? I've
installed the SFU package on our sole W2K system and can't start the
service. The W2K system is attached to a stand-alone network of
Solaris systems and we'd benefit greatly from it if I could only get
user name mapping working.
All attempts to start user name mapping end with a "service failed to
start" message. I can't find, through the help files, where problems
might be logged.
Do I need to be running a server version of W2K?

I've posted this query in the SFU group, but have not received the help
I need. I can't believe I'm the only one that's run into this problem.

Thanks

..Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 3 or later
..Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 3 or later

(Windows Services for UNIX 3.5 does not work with Microsoft Windows 95,
Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows XP Home Edition, Windows NT®
Workstation, or Windows NT Server.)
Memory16 megabytes (MB) of RAM minimum, in addition to the recommended
minimum configuration for the operating system

However, have you seen this? SFU has been essentially discontinued due to
folding some functionality into W2K3.
