When I boot up win2000, I had the system remember my
username and password, so that I could go right up into
windows without requiring me to type it. I want to change
this now so that I am prompted for the user name and
password when the computer starts up.

How do I do this?

Registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Clear the default password (on the right) and optionally
the user name.

Windows has built in interfaces for this.

Go to: Administrative Tools>Local Security Policy>Local
Policies>Security Options>

" Do not display last user name at logon"
Set to: Enabled

"Number of previous logons to cache"
Set to "0"

You'll have to have admin privileges to do this however.
If the account you're using is your Administrator account
and you no longer remember that password you'd better log
on as you have been and reset the password before you make
any changes so you don't lock yourself out.
