I am confused! Reading to date suggests that if I have
multiple DC instances in my W2K Domain and I am not using
Sites to localize traffic I will attempt all DC's during
logon and the one that responds first to ping would be
logonserver. In implementing this kind of design I was
suprised to find one of my Servers across a low speed link
was used and was my LOGONSERVER.
I ran a trace to try and resolve and found that during my
Workstation Startup my LDAP query returns 2 DC's in my
first-site-name but I only ever attempt to talk to one of
these? I never attempted to talk to the other DC so it
never had a chance to respond first. I am not sure if
this is how it should be working, again based upon my
reading.
What am I missing or do I have a problem? Is this working
as designed? I would have expected my Workstation to ping
all of my DC's and worked with first responder. Is there
a problem in my DNS configuration? I suspect not given it
gave me multiple DC's.
