I have a user setup on my W2KP system; that user can logon
to the system fine, but when they try to logoff or
shutdown the system, the system does not respond; I have
to manually shut the system down by pressing the power
button. What can I do to fix this?

I'm a newbie to w2kp too, but from a security standpoint I would
think that you don't want users to have the ability to shutdown the
system. I set the Ctrl-Alt-Del (while logged on as Admin) to ensure
a clean transition when logging off the user, before logging on again
as Admin, to shutdown the system.

Just the one user? Can administrator shutdown the system? If not, see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315409.

FWIW, WRT the security issue Alan Illeman mentions, I would control who can
shut down Server, but normally would allow authenticated users to shut down
a Professional system. We're a little more lax on physical security with
Professional than we are with Server, but maybe we should reconsider that
policy - might cut down on support calls. Or, maybe the Next Version will
have an error message I have been waiting to see: "Defective End User
detected. Replace Defective End User, and retry operation.
