When I log in there is a message against my name to say
that I have 1 email message waiting.

I have checked my email accounts & I have no outstanding
mail.

How can I delete this alert.

You can correct the message in TWEAKUI.EXE > Repair or turn this off
at all in TWEAKUI.EXE > Logon > Unread Mail. TweakUI is available from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp.
