user local profile can not be deleted

(Windows XP Professional 2002 Edition with Service Pack 3) The System
Properties>Advanced>Users window does not always allow the deletion of some
profiles. The ntuser.dat files in these profiles have not been properly
closed and are therefore "in use by another process." How can this be
remedied?

First - try rebooting and doing it first thing after a reboot/logon as some
other administrative level account.

Second - try booting into safe mode and doing it there.
 
Thank you for your assistance. I downloaded uphclean.exe, ran it, and now I
can delete those profies.
